iTunes Alternative for iPod Shuffle 3G/4G without iTunes

The latest update of the free iTunes Alternative (CopyTrans Manager) included the support of iPod Shuffle 3G and 4G. I also detected some minor graphical changes in the interface, which make this iTunes replacement still more and more user-friendly.

If you want to manage iPod, iPhone or iPad without iTunes you should use this app. It's always up to date and the support team seems to be very reactive (according to user feedbacks on their Facebook page).

Automatically add artwork to iPhone, iPad & iPod

I just came across another cool feature of CopyTrans Manager - the free iTunes alternative. The latest improvement allows you to add artworks automatically on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. You want to replace wrong or missing artworks on your iDevice, just follow this simple steps:

  • Open CopyTrans Manager and connect your iPhone

  • Select the songs or albums to add an artwork

  • Push the right mouse button and select "Multi-Edit"

  • In the next Window (Tag-Editor) choose "Search Artwork"

  • CopyTrans Manager will now automatically search and display fitting artworks

  • Select your artwork with a double-click

  • Confirm your choice and synchronize your iPhone

  • That's it! The first, portable iTunes Alternative with automatic artwork search

iPod, iPhone and iPad without iTunes & without duplicates

CopyTrans Manager the free Alternative to iTunes has been updated recently. It now supports the management of duplicate files on iPod, iPhone and iPad. Meaning that if you're going to add music to your iPhone, CopyTrans Manager recognizes already existing tracks and won't add them once again.

If you've already got duplicate files on your iPhone, you can easily show and delete them. Therefore just push the right mouse button in the main track-list and choose "Show duplicates". This way you can easily delete all duplicate songs, videos etc. from your iDevice.

Theme support in CopyTrans Manager?

Ok, so I've just switched to Windows 7 (been hanging on to XP for far too long jaja). Pretty cool I'd say. A lot faster indeed.

I'm having a hard time getting used to the new Control Panel and even more to the new look. Too "candy-ish" for me ... guess I just need to get used to it.

Of course, I've installed all of my favorite apps, including -if you're reading this blog than you'll know I have to talk about it- CopyTrans Manager :-)

Good news: It works perfectly (Win 7 Pro 64bits), you'll have to install the drivers for the iPhone or iPod Touch ... and also make sure to take the correct (64bits) iTunes version.

Bad news: Well it kind of sticks out from the rest of the apps. Arg.

As I'm not one to just accept things as they are, I started looking at the Advanced Settings available in the Settings Tab. Found one setting called Skin so I was hoping I could just get rid of the old-school Mac theme ... that was a no-go.
However, after a lot more digging and google searching I did find out that you could create themes using a skinning application and basically import msstyles and save as .skn file. Couple of tweeks later, this is my result. (I'll put more work into it at a later time).

The theme I used is called "Windows 7 M1 VS" made by deskmundo (cheers!)

A long needed update

Hi All,

well it's been quite a while and a lot of new CopyTrans Manager versions have come my way.

I'll try to find some time to update accordingly but for now I'd just like to summarize the key updates that I have found in the newest version:

* New iPod media player, pops out of the main window. Seems pretty well done, shows iPod music artwork, track ratings, etc. Nice feature, you can now change the track playing order.

* Advanced preferences. There are tons of things to change in here. Seems like there is soon going to be some skinning going on! There's an option there but does not seem activated yet... I'm definitively looking forward to that though!

* I've tried CopyTrans Manager with the latest iPod Nano 5G, and everything works perfectly.

Have to go!

Managing my iPod and iPhone without iTunes

Edit: Since the time I wrote this article a couple of news have came out:
1.- Compatible with the iPhone OS 3 as well as with the new iPhone 3GS
2.- The guys over at CopyTrans realeased a new version with a really cool new player. I was even told it would become fully customizable (as far as the settings are concerned) so I guess we'll see what how they are going to surprise us!

The aim of this blog is to share my experience of replacing iTunes with CopyTrans Manager, the free iTunes alternative from the guys over at CopyTrans.

http://www.copytrans-manager.com

It's been the most effective, fastest and easiest iTunes alternative I have seen. So much so, that it is now the only one installed on my windows laptop.

You'll see what CopyTrans Manager is capable of and learn how to add music to your iPod, create and edit iPod playlists, delete video and music from your iPhone, edit track tags and import artwork.

To ensure easy reading, I broke down the article into chapters:

Part 1 & 2 : Why I needed such an alternative to manage my iPod without iTunes
Part 3 to 6: How-to tutorial/guide I put together to use CopyTrans Manager
Part 7 & 9 : Final thoughts and interesting links that helped me write this article.

Why use an iTunes alternative?

I’ve been a mac user for the last 10 years and a big fan of Apple products, own a couple of laptops (MacBook Air and Powerbook) an iPod Shuffle and an iPhone. Having changed jobs, I now have to work on a Windows machine, which I take home and use while traveling from home to work (train).

I’ve found myself wanting to organize my iPod and iPhone while traveling. i.e. organizing my playlists, importing the latest CD, etc.

As it has been quite a hassle, I thought I could share my experience with all of you that are in a similar situation.

My first attempt (Mac user habits) was to use iTunes. On a Mac, iTunes is just perfect for me (no joking), it’s not too slow, organizes everything for me (as all the Apple applications do) and fits in nicely with everything else.

However, I must admit that I had a completely different experience with it on Windows.

On Windows, iTunes is:
- Slow
- Sticks out from all the other applications
- Has a tendency to crash
- Takes forever to load
- Oh, and did I mention it was slow?

This doesn’t even take into account the fact that I don’t want my Shuffle and iPhone to be permanently linked to my windows machine. I still count a lot on Mac OS X!

The best solution for me has been CopyTrans Manager - the free iTunes alternative

The best iTunes replacement: CopyTrans Manager

I tried a few others first, some were packed with features, some had less features. Some too complicated, some too basic. Most of them are free though, so I guess you can't complain...

In the end, the one that best suites my particular needs is CopyTrans Manager.

The one that lets me add my music on the go quickly and that launches instantly (yes, that's pretty fast). An iTunes alternative that lets me edit my iPod tag information and imports artwork from my music files automatically.

This alternative iPod manager has it all, supports playlists and even has an integrated music player!

Ok, it’s still in beta stage but really, I’m not sure why !?
